Donations & Support

Letter from the KWCMS Board

As we celebrate the Kitchener-Waterloo Chamber Music Society’s 50th anniversary on December 1st, we encourage you to take the opportunity to donate generously. For 50 years KWCMS has brought us the joy of world-class performances and placed KW on the map as a destination for players and audiences alike.  But we can’t continue without your help.

Why? Since Covid, expenses have gone up considerably. Audiences have not reached pre-pandemic levels. The number of concerts in the season has increased (25 concerts lined up between the start of 2025 and the end of May). Venues are an ongoing cost. And inflation hits musicians' pockets as well.

But Superticket prices have actually gone down!

So now is the time to appeal to your pocketbook and passion for excellent music. December is also the last month to make your tax-deductible charitable donation for 2024.  When you donate via cash, cheque, or the preferred e-transfer (kwmusicroom@gmail.com), a tax receipt will be issued.

Although the KWCMS Board is working hard to try to increase audience size and to explore various fundraising ideas (more on that in the future), we need to rely on your financial boost for the New Year's concerts.  Thanks so much for your generosity!

Donations

The KWCMS is a not-for-profit, charitable organization. Ticket sales alone do not cover all of our costs.  It is through the generosity of donors that we can continue to offer high quality and affordable concerts. This is not easy in a time when many arts organizations are struggling. Help us keep classical music alive in the region, to enrich our community now and for generations to come. We are grateful for any support you can give.

Tax-deductible donations can be made in the following ways:

Tax receipts will be issued for all donations.

Volunteers

Join the KWCMS Team!

After 50 successful years running the best chamber music series in the region (province? world?), Jan and Jean Narveson are welcoming some help. Times are changing and we need new ways to attract more audience members and support our busy concert schedule.

A Transition Committee has identified tasks. They are listed below. Some of these jobs are already being handled but more help is required. If you are interested in any of these opportunities, please email me, Janet Takata, at takatajanet@outlook.com, specifying what area(s) you are interested in.

Thank you for your interest. We hope you can join the team in a small or big way. The future of the series depends on it.

Concert Set-up

When: ½ hr before concerts at Keffer Memorial Chapel only (not required at other venues)

What: Set up chairs, open doors for guests

Note: We hope to rotate this among a few people

Concert Shut-down

When: ½ hr after concerts at Keffer Memorial Chapel only (not required at other venues)

What: Put away chairs (audience members already help out with this), shut off lights, check that green room and concert space are in order

Note: We hope to rotate this among a few people

Social Media

When: Throughout the concert season, a couple of hours (or less) per week

What: We require a person who knows Instagram and Facebook well, to promote our concerts regularly. Knowledge of promotion tools on these platforms is important. Create catchy posts. This is an important addition to our PR, essential to reach new audience members. It requires dedication and commitment with postings a couple of times a week.

Note: If you know someone other than yourself who might be interested, please let us know.

Fundraising Committee

When: Active throughout the year, depending on what the committee initiates

What: A leader and participants to discuss and implement fundraising activities. May include soliciting local businesses, applying for grants, planning special events.

Note: Several people are needed for this.

Special Events Committee

When and What: Organize one or two receptions held after concerts each season (eg. Beethoven’s Birthday). People can be involved in whatever way is possible for them – everything from an hour at one event to several hours or more coordinating events`.

Billet Hosts

When: For a couple of days/nights when musicians are in town for a concert and rehearsals

What: Audience members provide overnight accommodation for musicians while they are in town. Do you have an extra bedroom? You might find it very interesting meeting the remarkable musicians from all around the world who come to play here.

Note: Want to join the people who happily provide this service already? We could use some more!

Drivers

When: Before and after a concert

What: Provide transportation to and from Pearson International Airport and/or around town to get musicians to and from concerts and rehearsals.

Note: We are hoping to add to our driving team so this task can be shared.

Board Advisor

Are you a lawyer or accountant?  We could use your help for issues that arise infrequently. Would you be willing to offer some advice from time to time?

Volunteer Coordinator

When: Some activity for each concert, a couple of hours per week

What: Gather and assign volunteers. Coordinate and communicate with volunteers and connect them with another lead person as required. Confirm that volunteers will be present to fulfill their task.

THAT'S IT.  HELP KEEP GREAT MUSIC ALIVE IN OUR REGION. THANK YOU!
